MKVtools is a collection of tools to manage and convert MKV and OGM video files. The main aim of it is convert mkv files into more user friendly formats that will play on a variety of hardware.
MKVtools has a number of main features. The most useful is that it can convert videos to either .avi files or .mp4 files. In addition, it can also extract selected .mkv tracks as individual video, audio and subtitle files. One particularly handy aspect is that you can also preview videos before converting them all.
MKVtools is also suitable for those that are embedding subtitles into videos. You can even control the font, size and positioning of the embedded subtitles. Finally, MKVtools gives you some impressive control over splitting and merging of video files. You can split .mkv videos into sections with a specified start and end time and also join, mux and change the pixel aspect ratio of .mp4 videos. All of these tasks can be processed in batches.
MKVtools is a powerful, if a little complicated application, for managing MKV and OGM files.
MKVtools is now Intel only. Sorry. It has been tested on a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro running Leopard (Mac OSX 10.5.x) with no known issues. Your mileage will definitely vary if you’re using an older system.

Not saving output.
THis program is not saving the output to the drive. Also has a very annoying purchase now screen. It is not free but is shareware at 4.95. Not sure if the save feature is disabled or if it is just not working. OS 10.7. Just the app, no dmg file to install. Could this be the problem. Also requires Java download. More
